Karis stared at Thalys for a long moment, silent.  Slowly, a huge smile crept up her face, and her eyes widened in excitement.  “Do you really mean it?!  We get to go on a quest!?”
Thalys nodded his head happily in return.  Of course, Karis wrapped him up in a big hug and kissed him on the cheek.
“I figured you’d like that…” he said with a chuckle.
“This is going to be great!  I can’t wait!” Karis said, shaking a fist in the air.  “You haven’t even seen me fight since last you left.  I’ve gotten so much better!”
“I’m sure you have, dear…” Thalys said, laughing.
“What’s so funny?  You don’t believe me?” Karis said, seemingly annoyed.
“No no, I believe you.  I just thought of something on my adventure that was really funny.  Come on, let me get rid of this junk I’ve been carrying around and we’ll both get to work cleaning this mess up,” Thalys said, standing up.  He lifted Karis up with ease, which surprised the girl.
“Wow, when did someone get so strong?  Last I remember you were a little scrawny nobleman.  Now you’re a real fighter!” Karis said, squeezing Thalys’ arm, which had indeed gotten bigger since the time he left.  He sighed, remembering all the things that had happened over the months he was gone.  When he turned his attention towards the impatient Karis, though, he couldn’t help laughing as she tugged him along.

Indeed, things had changed.  Now, he no longer aspired to simply be a wander.  Thalys Ol’Calien of Maeltryst had the desire to be a hero…
