Cesar Barone

Another member of the Serial Killing hotbed of Oregon, Cesar Barone is currently on death row for the rape and murder of four women. Barone was born and raised in Florida as Adolph James Rode and is also the main suspect in at least one murder there in the late 1970's and was aquitted, probably falsely, of an attack on his own grandmother at around the same time.

Barone murdered Margaret Schmidt, 61, in her Hillsboro home in April of 1991. She had been raped bfore being strangled to death. In October of 1992 he shot and wounded nurse Martha Bryant in Hillsboro, wounding the defenseless woman, before dragging her from her car and sexually assaulting her. He then shot her in the head at close range. His next victim was Chantee Woodman, 23, who Barone also sexually assaulted and shot to death in Portland during December of the same year. The sex-killer's final victim was 51-year-old Betty Williams, who suffered a heart attack during the attack in her Portland apartment in January of 1993. Barone was given 89 years for Williams' killing, but recieved the death penalty for the slayings of Schmidt, Bryant, and Woodman.

A couple of interesting notes concerning Barone. He was sentenced to two years of juvenile detention for attacking one of the same women he is suspected of killing in Florida but charges have been dropped in the murder case because Barone is already on death row in Oregon. Also, it is reported that Barone, Rode at that time, was briefly a cellmate of prolific Serial Killer Ted Bundy in Florida after Bundy had been arrested for the final time in 1979.
