England, London; Jack The Ripper

When an unknown attacker murdered Mary Ann Nichols on August 31, 1888, in London, it was the beginning of a vicious slaughter that would to this day be known as the most famous unsolved serial slaying in history.

The still unnamed killer was stealthy and bold, killing his first four victims in the streets during the night, butchering and mutilating his prostitute victims in a brutal manner that even today is rarely equalled. His fifth and final victim, certainly because he had her in the relative privacy of her own home, was as gruesome a slaying as anyone has ever seen. Mary Kelly suffered such horrible atrocities that she barely resembled a human being. She had been nearly decapitated and her stomach had been sliced open with the entrails and some organs pulled out. Also, her breasts and nose had been cut off and her forehead and legs skinned.

The killing stopped there but the debate rages forward today as many experts on the case extend theories and sift history for suspects. Most likely Jack was just an ordinary nobody who slid easily out of sight, disappearing forever due to death or incarceration, never to be linked to the Whitechapel murders. No real evidence from the murders exists (fingerprinting had not even come into policework at that time) to link Jack with a potential suspect anymore so it appears as if Jack The Ripper's real name will remain a mystery forever.
