Me and Mike Met At School And Bonded Over Nirvana (Im Not A Fan Anymore) but then started to like Dinosaur Jr and Yo La Tengo so we started a band And then Louis Joined who we also knew from school and we knew he was cool. He looked like robert Plant back then and then we just carried on.
What was the first gig you ever went to and what was the first gig you played?
The First Gig I went to is actually fucking cool, i went to see Will Oldham when I was 8 with my Mum and Stepdad but I dont think I was that interested and I apprently got into the backstage bit and stole Will Oldhams chocolates. The First Gig as Let's Wrestle was November 2006 with Jeffrey Lewis in birmingham.
What came first the band name or the song of the same name?
The band name was knocking around for ages. Me and Mike were in a different band called Let's Wrestle with Mikes ex girlfriend so technically this is Let's Wrestle mark 2 but we just wrote the song in my bedroom as a joke thinking we'd never play it or release it. It annoys me when people assosciate us with that one song.
I've read a couple of pieces on you where the writer refers to early Pavement, that must be the greatest compliment on the planet! What do they mean to you? (pavement not compliments)
Yeah Pavement are one of the greatest bands ever its amazing. Slanted and Enchanted I heard that when I was a lot younger and it really made me want to be in a band and write songs.
I'm not sure really, my favourite gig was at Great Escape festival, that was really cool. My favourite thing is that you can meet people who wouldn't care as much about who I am if I werent in a band. I have met 2 of my heros now Vic Godard (Subway Sect) and Dan Treacy (Television Personalities).
Could you tell me what your favorite albums have been this year ?
If this is albums out this year its only been Pete And the Pirates whose album I've got there is couple I may buy like Times New Vikings one, I heard Fucked Ups year of the pig and that is amazing. Bands I just discovered this year, there is stuff like Flower Travelin' Band from Japan who do stuff like Sabbath but a lot better who were around in the 70s, and R Stevie Moore, who my friend mathew played me, is great he writes songs about looking at girls and staying at home which is basicly what I write about.
And finally, Has being in Let's Wrestle got you laid yet?
That is a great question. I wish people asked that to somebody who had been around for years like u2, how great would it be if they hadn't gotten laid from it in, what, 25 years? And the Edge's penis had just shrivelled up inside of him. All I'm going to say is girls have never liked me and now they do because I'm in hip rock band Let's Wrestle which is pretty rad.
