The project Blutleuchte was conceived in early 2000 a.y.p.s. with the purpose to create both ancient and modern atmospheres by a syncretic approach to neo-folk, industrial and power electronics.

                 “Rus”

The first concept for Blutleuchte was to present a musical journey through the ancient Slavic kingdom of Russia, continuing all the way to the space industries and wars of Soviet Union, up to the present day. First of all, after researching the periods of Russian history, the tracklist was written in a library. Then, each track was created part by part and the style was chosen to correlate in an intuitive way to the title and concept of the track. For example, ambient was chosen for “Siberia” and loud power electronics for “Kursk Chill Water Baptism”. Lots of samples of historical speeches and sound effects of fire, ice, horses were utilized to create a quasi-cinematic approach. Sähkö Recordings took interest in the project after hearing a couple of the noisiest samples recorded, but ended up choosing softer atmospheres for release. A bit more than a half of the original recordings are presented on the Sähkö-018 CD release in 2002 a.y.p.s., which was critically acclaimed but also made many people confused because of the variance of styles. The best of the rest has been recycled for inclusion on various releases by Blutleuchte and Dead Reptile Shrine. Translated track titles of “Rus” and lyrics are available here. As of this writing, the album still seems to be available from Sähkö Recordings' site and probably also one can find it from techno labels who just got it in stock because it was released on Sähkö but never managed to get rid of it.

“Louis Kuhne's Science of Facial Expression”

This cycle of three tracks was recorded in a hurry to be part of a compilation and was inspired by the strange medicinal theories by German doctor Louis Kuhne, who worked in the beginning of the 20th century. After infinite delays, it was supposedly released on Ixtlan Industries' 8.way.medicine.wheel, a 2xCDR compilation with all the other bands being Latvian. The style varies from surrealist ambient to electro-mystical pagan beats. It is now available on the music site Last.fm along the rest of Ixtlan's discography.

“The Discovery of Fire”

New folk, ritual and electronic recordings were done for Blutleuchte in 2002-2003 with no specific lyrical concept in mind. Most of the tracks concern occultism, paganism, shamanism and some lyrics are taken from Elder Edda and ancient Slavic mythology. Sampled voices include Aleister Crowley, nazi leaders and the radio play “War of the Worlds” by Orson Welles. It was spread to interested people in CDR format but otherwise left unreleased. One of the tracks is featured on the Dead Reptile Shrine / Torturium split LP.

”Me Kutsumme Sinun Susiasi”

A ritualistic track based on our Finnish translation of a poem by Friedrich Hielscher was recorded 2003 at Aorta’s request for their compilation “Wir Rufen Deine Wölfe”. It was left unreleased because a voice sample we used (from King Edward’s abdication speech) was not related to the concept of the compilation. However, another version was recorded by Erdgeist during the same sessions and appears on the WRDW compilation.

            “Cloama + Blutleuchte”

This initiatory work with Finnish industrial artist Cloama is the first in a very successful series of experiments. All of the tracks on the 55 minute album were worked on by both parties during 2003, though everything was done over mail and not one moment was spent together in the studio. This work combines the droning ambience and dark spiraling frequencies of Cloama with the occult lyrics, mystical concepts and surrealist fantasies of Blutleuchte. After initial searches in alchemical texts for suitable cover material, everything in the covers and included cards was photographed and drawn by Cloama and Blutleuchte. Labels refused to release it at the time but when Cloama’s New Old Sentinel released it as a beautiful CDR edition, many thought it was excellent and that it should have had a proper pressing. The small CDR edition is already sold out so a re-release will happen in actual CD format through Anima Arctica.

“Humanity in Flames”

AA noisy industrial track was recorded in 2005 for the compilation Russian Roulette, from Neuroscan.org.

“Morphologie”
Some of the industrial-style recordings left unreleased from the “Rus” sessions and newer material from 2004 in droning/harsh/ritualistic style will be hopefully released soon in a small CDR edition through New Old Sentinel.

            “From Wasteland Mausoleums” (with Cloama)

Another collaboration with the prolific and intense industrial madness of Cloama was completed in 2007 and released by New Old Sentinel on CD. The sounds were captured through various processes at even more separate power locations than was the case for our first collaboration and this time we had an opportunity to work together in studio. The results are a mysterious amalgamation of Cloama's psychedelic journeys, Blutleuchte's occult neo-folk/power electronics synthesis and even Dead Reptile Shrine's shamanic ritual intentions. This CD must be a difficult case for everyone expecting a noise/ambient release but it was done with pure experimental, even progressive intentions. And this means magical journeys, not art for art's sake!

“Convoluted in Peripheral Sacrifice” (with Cloama)

We teamed up once again with Cloama to invoke a vision from the abyss in a pure harsh industrial direction which was only hinted at in our previous two collaborations. This tape contains 42 minutes of crude yet elaborate material which was released in August 2008 by Freak Animal. Conceptually here one can witness glimpses through the eyes of the insane, attacks upon the human reality frame and the malevolent pleasure in possessing harsh, vitriolic, metallic and static hissing sounds, complete with screamed vocals and esoteric lyrics in our unique style. The maze opens its jaws...
