Shrove Tuesday is in February or March.Most English children look forward to the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday - officially known as "Shrove Tuesday", but populary called "Pancake Day ".On this day , groups of children get together to make and eat pancakes (thin cakes fried in a pan).
1 - Put the flour into a bowl.
2 - Mix half the water and milk and add them to the centre of the flour. Mix everything until it is smooth. 3 - Break the eggs and add them salt and sugar to the mixture. 4 - Add the rest of the milk , water and the mrlted butter and stir the mixture for 5-10 minutes. 5 - Leave it for half an hour in a cool place. 6 - Heat some butter or oil in a frying-pan. 7 - Spread two tablespoons of the pancake mixture in the pan. Cook it for 1-2 minutes. 8 - When the pancake is golden on one side,toss it into the air to turn it and cook the other side. 9 - Put it on a plate and sprinkle it with lemon juice nd sugar. |
But the real fun of Pancake Day are the races that take place between housewives ,for example,or between children themselves. Runners carry a frying-pan and a pancake in one hand. They have to toss the pancacake three times _ throw it into the air and catch it again in the frying-pan. The winner is the one who arrives at the finishing line first without having dropped his / her pancake.
