Blackpool Dance Festival, 2001!

   Beginning in 1920 (with 5 years off during the war years), "Blackpool", as it is referred to by DanceSport athletes, is presented annually during the last week of May. It is held at the 100 year old Victorian Empress Ballroom of The Winter Gardens in the seaside resort of Blackpool, England, and - even though it is not the World Championships - it is considered by most dancers to be the Championships of the World.

Thanks to the very kind generosity of a number of many wonderful friends and organizations, Meg and Joe were able to attend the Blackpool Festival this year.

To keep our story within an acceptable download time for everyone, we have posted our experiences day-by-day. Make a selection on the left to see what was happening! (And just in case you're interested - Joe and Meg danced on Tuesday...)

Sadly, but understandably, flash pictures were not allowed during the competition itself, so we have none of Meg and Joe during their actual rounds. There were some photo pros there, however, and there are some great general pictures at www.blackpooldancefestival.net.
