Each
twilight evening, by the paling red sea
I
have walked the sandy coral beach,
In
silent solitude --
Alone
...
Musty
crab shells on mossy, sea-bathed rocks
My
only company.
Each
frothy dark night, in the cry of a lost gull,
The
icy night wind in mischievous cruelty
Has
thrown my mind into a tangled confusion
Of
a bitter nothingness--
Akin
to the countless million ripples
That
arise from a deep roar of the sapphire blue waves
And
fade away softly in my lonely palms.
Moments
of childlike ecstasy have I spent
In
curious excitement
Unearthing
each marine treasure that lies in solitude
Cast
away from their sapphire home.
and
often have I whispered softly, little fantasies of a lonely heart--
Thoughts
of a world for me and li'l children--
Little
lonely children of the dark...
Beyond
cloudless heavens (so I have heard)
Colors
bright and pale dance and play.
Laughing
waves shower a gleeful, friendly spray
And
the blinding rays of a midday sun
Whip
young sapling souls no more
into
a forgotten dust.
But
each thought that I have fancied
And
each path that I have traced
through
a shattered dream,
Pale
images have sneered from
The
footprints of a dull-gray past.
But
in the pale light shimmering paths yet remain hidden away
As
I retrace them softly
Into
a world tucked away safely
In
the heart of a solitary coral....
