...the story
Way back in '91, Mark's sister Anne introduced him to Tom, one of her friends at Rancho Bernardo High School. By the afternoon they met each other, Mark and Tom were writing music and even had the beginnings of Carousel . They recruited Tom's friend Scott Raynor on drums and became Duck Tape. A few days later, they were re-christened as Blink (where does the 182 come in? see below). They began played any club in San Diego that would have them although none of them were old enough to hang out in the bars before or after the sets. They toured relentlessly in a broken down, dirty van and released their first album, Cheshire Cat in 1995. Album #2 (but their first as Blink-182), Dude Ranch was released in 1997 and started getting them serious radio time and even some MTV play. This was also their first album on MCA. In 1998, sometime fill-in drummer Travis Barker of the Aquabats permanently replaced Scott and in 1999, Enema of the State was relased. It went multi-platinum in many countries and "All the Small Things" became a Top 10 Single on Billboard (the only Blink-182 song to do so) in November '99. In November 2000, the live album, The Mark, Tom and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back) was released and it included the Enema reject "Man Overboard". In June 2001, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket was released and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts.

...182?
Most people think there's some secret meaning to the 182. actually, it doesn't mean anything at all. An irish techno band (that has broken up) known as Blink threatened to sue the guys for using the name so they decided to add a number to the end to avoid the suit. For some reason, this number was 182.
Some guesses on the 182:
-The number of times Al Pacino says fuck in "Scarface"
-Mark's ideal weight
-Somebody's address
-The number of times Mark masturbated to Princess Leia in The Return of the Jedi.
