Test driver for McLaren and Footwork teams
An impressive collection of victories in lower formulae thrust Jos Verstappen into Formula One (F1), the pinnacle of International motor sport. He entered F1 for the first time as a one-off test driver/reserve for the Footwork and McLaren teams.
He performed a test for the Footwork team at Estoril circuit in Portugal, registering a lap time only a fraction slower than regular Footwork racer, Derek Warwick. Impressing many, Jos was quickly signed by Benetton team boss, Flavio Briatore as the team's test driver for the remainder of 1993 and whole of 1994.
