2000 F1 Season

A new era

Racing for Arrow
s

A last minute deal in early 2000 saw Jos's return to F1 racing. Jos was partnered with Spaniard,
Pedro de la Rosa.
In many respects, this car was seen as a revelation to the Arrows team, especially in comparison to the inferior 1999 team car. The 'A21' recorded the fastest straight line speeds at some circuits and is well-remembered for its bright-orange livery and 'Orange' mobile-phone sponsorship.

However, as usual, unreliability deprived the team of many points. Jos impressed at race two of the season - the Brazilian Grand Prix - running a high of 3rd position. The Canadian Grand Prix saw Jos finish 5th after a battle with the top teams in torrential rain. Great expectations were held after Jos qualifyed 8th at a wet Silverstone (England) circuit, but the car, yet again, gave in. Pedro and Jos amazed as they ran 3rd and 4th after a first-corner pile-up at Austria, only to both finish the race prematurely thanks to more car defects.

Pedro impressed the team qualifying 5th at Hockenheim and twice finishing in 6th position. Jos finally scored more points after finishing 4th at Monza - the highest position for the Arrows team that season. However, at the same race, Pedro was involved in a massive pile-up in which a track marshall was fatally wounded. A bitter-sweet memory for Arrows.

Overall, a good season for Arrows which could have been so much better. Jos and Pedro have remained good friends since season 2000.
