Justin WILSON Born: 1978, Sheffield, England Official website: www.justinwilson.co.uk After winning the 2001 International F3000 Championship (the first British driver to do so), it became clear that the F1 teams were interested in him. He tested for the Jordan team that year but proved too tall for the cars cockpit. This hampered his entrance to F1 - in 2002, Minardi would call on Wilson to replace regular driver, Alex Yoong only to cancel the plans due to his height. However, in 2003, Minardi designed a car that would take the tall Englishman and partnered him with Jos Verstappen for his first F1 season. Noted for his achievements whilst at Minardi (often matching his experienced team mate), Wilson was taken on by Jaguar half way through the 2003 season but did not do as well as expected, overshadowed by new team mate, Mark Webber. He lost his career in Formula One when season 2004 came and took part in sports car racing. He managed to clinch a deal with a team in Champ Cars (similar series to F1 in the USA) for 2005. |
