The hovercraft
in it's present state; trial "flight" on a flat roof. |
What
nutcase starts on something like this, and why?!
The first idea came upwhen i was reading an old hobby magazine, which
described a home built hovercraft.
A documentairy on Discovery sparked my interst even more and a search on
the net proved the idea to not being that crazy as i thought.
After many weeks of pondering, schetching en trips to the hobby shop the
first real drawings were made and building started. |

The frame under construction (overview).
Length x beam x height:
80 x 50 x 10 cm. |
The frame is built out of trusses made from balsa
boards (6 mm ). Also balsa trip wood is used (5 x 20 mm and 6 x 6
mm). |
Detail shot of the front side,
with well visible the different trusses that shape the hull.

|
The frame was
mainly constracted out of balsa to save weight, while the outside was
covered with thin (0,8 mm) aircraft plywood. |
|
Corner strips and bottom (2 mm
ply) added.

20 x 50 cm.
