Mystic Poem #1

I see the flowers:
   daffodil,
   dactyl,
   and deus ex machina,
   marigold,
   daisy,
   and purple petunia
   into eternity
   catching the light
   and casting the shadow
   of a small insignificant star.

Yet how much more beatified
   are these
   than eternity
when I’m sitting on my porch.

Perhaps I am in competition with god,
   but heaven can be now.

Why wait?
