Although not recognized by most veterinary bodies as a clinical specialty per se, the demand for alternative medicine by pet and horse owners has increased tremendously over the last decade; this has led to more formal veterinary training by bodies such as the International Veterinary Acupuncture Sociey (IVAS) where vets can study for a Certificate in Acupuncture.  Unfortunately, too many so-called "naturopaths" without any formal medical training are offering such services to pet owners as well - this may be motivation to veterinarians to be at least familiar with the various modalities that are available within anecdotal-based medicine as opposed to just solely evidence-based medicine.
