VCO arranged a demonstration of "CAT WORKS" March 15, 2006 (Sponsors: IAAPEA) |

As previously, it has been said that VCO aims to promote alternatives in Pakistan to save the life of those animals which are killed for the teaching, research or studying purpose. Taking the step towards welfare of the animals, VCO organized a Demonstration of software alternative about the anatomy and histology of different organs of cat, on Wednesday March 15, 2006 at Auditorium Hall, university of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore Pakistan. The “CAT WORKS” was demonstrated by 2 speakers. Dr.Rana Shaukat Hussain Secretary General VCO and Dr. Fareeha Akhter who is president of Vets Care Club which is working in UVAS. The demonstration was conducted only for the students of 1st year DVM class. The chief guest of the event was Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (Dean, Faculty of Bio-Sciences,UVAS). Patron Vets care Club UVAS, Prof. Dr. H.A.Hashmi (Director Advanced Studies & Research & chairman department of Parasitology) also chaired the seminar. All the teachers of the Department of Anatomy & Histology, were invited. Anchor persons, Mr.Abdur Rehman(General secretary Vets Care Club UVAS) and Miss Shaista Gul Bukhari (Incharge Female wing Vets Care Club) started the program. After recitation from HOLY QURAN, Dr. Fareeha Akhter (President, Vets Care Club, UVAS) demonstrated the anatomy section including myology and osteology of the cat and the students also watched the clips regarding the anatomy of cat in the software. Dr. Rana Shaukat Hussain (Secretary General VCO) demonstrated the Dissection and Histology section of "Cat Works". Appreciation Certificates were also distributed among the persons who were involved in organizing such an informative technical session. The shields were presented to the speakers. Worthy Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf appreciated the young team of the Vets Care for introducing this new vision of study for the students in which the painful killing is not a necessary part. He showed his interest in the alternatives & said that, university will collaborate with Vets Care Organization Pakistan for launching a project to reduce the number of animals by using the Alternatives. Patron of Vets Care, Prof. Dr.H.A.Hashmi congratulated the team of Vets Care and appreciated the enthusiastic work of executive body in the favor of lab animals. He also paid special thanks to IAAPEA for sponsoring this seminar & said that, we will be soon launching a project with collaborations of IAAPEA & other international organizations working against vivisection.

VCO arranged a field day at "RATU CHAK" district "NAROWAL" Pakistan. March 19, 2006 |

Pakistan is a country in which 70% people live in different villages & remote areas. The villagers keep the animals which are source of earning for their livelihood. Due to economic problems and deficiency of knowledge about the welfare of animals, they do not do required care of animals. Taking the notice of this main drw back, VCO arranges “Field Days” in which the main purpose is to make a noise about the welfare of animals & disseminate the knowledge in farmers through lectures in local language. In the field day, free vaccination against different diseases, deworming & treatment of sick animals is the main focusing point. These field days are also for the purpose to provide the technical skills to the veterinary students. In continouing of its activities, VCO arranged a “Field day” at “Ratu Chak” village district Narowal Pakistan on Sunday, March 19, 2006. This field day was arranged at the eve of milking competition held by the district livestock department Narowal. District Nazim Dr. Naimat Ullah Javed was chief guest in the event. District Livestock Officer Narowal, Dr. Nayyar Maqsood was also present on the event. The prizes were distributed among the owners of the position winning animals in the competition. About 19 veterinary students & doctors from the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore Pakistan participated in the field day being member of Vets Care Organization pakistan. All the students were introduced to district nazim turn by turn. Dr. Naimat Ullah Javed inaugurated the camp by administring de-wormer to a young calf with his hand. After this, Vets Care team started their work. According to the official recoird of VCO, 256 animals were freely dewormed. Free De-worming Goat/Sheep 48 Donkeys 12 Calves 27 Buffalo/Cow 169 Total 256 In the area, there was out break of Foot & Mouth Disease (FMD). The VCO treated 31 cases of FMD in the area. This covered Ratu Chak, Shanghu & Abial Dogar of district Narowal. The dewormers & medicines were provided by Symans Pharmaceutical (Pvt) Ltd and Pakistan Medicose Lahore. Vets Care is hearily thankful to both of them. Appareciation certificates among the participients were distributed. Dr. Tanveer Hussain, Dr. Rao Intizar, Dr. Syed Mubashir, Mr. Waqas Tahir, Mr. Abdul rehman, Mr. Tanveer Ahmed, Mr. Ilyas,Mr. Asad Ali, Mr. Talha Sajjad, Mr. Abdul Qadus, Mr. Irfan Saleem, Mr. Arshad, Mr. Waseem Shaukat, Mr. Ammad tehsin, Mr. Muhammad Waqas, Mr. Umair Shafi Mr. Musawir Rehman & Mr.Malik Muhammad Ali attended the field day. Dr. Rana Shaukat Hussain was the chief organizer of the field day.

A farewell party was conducted in the honour of Dr. Nadira Khalid (Ex-Chief Organizer of Vets Care & Lecturer Department of Physiology & Biochemitry UVAS) in the University of Veterinary & Animal Sceinces, Lahore. The executive body & the office bearers of the Vets Care Organization(VCO) & Vets Care Club (VCC), UVAS Lahore attended the party. The certificate of HONOUR & shield of EXCELLENCE was presented to Dr. Nadira Khalid by the Chief guest, Dr. Syed Sajjad Haider (Patron-in-Chief VCO). She has gone to Manchester, United Kingdom. During her tenure, she did a great job in the uplift of VCO. She has done excellent work regarding the welfare of animals & uplift of veterinary profession. She has also been awarded lifetime membership of VCO for her extra-ordinary contributions. Vets Care is heartedly thankful for her kind guidence in various activities. May she get success where ever she goes.
