VETS DAY started eleven years ago at Tomah Veterans Home in Tomah, Wisconsin by UAW Region 4 Veterans. There are now three other VETS DAY BBQs in Knoxville, Iowa; Manteno, Illinois and Hastings, Minnesota. VETS DAY is where a  group of volunteers, let's say someone like you, goes to the VA Home and spends the day with a hospitalized Veteran. It is a one on one experience that will fill your heart and give you ever lasting memories. What better way to thank those who have made the sacrifices so that we may all enjoy the freedoms of this great country. Freedom is not free.

The BBQ starts around 11 am. Volunteers go up to the different wards and pick up a Veteran that they will spend the rest of the day with. The Veterans are brought outside and you help them make up their plates. There is a DJ playing music and Counrty Roads Band. The Vets enjoy a day of fun in the sun. After their meal we have a carnival mayday set up for them to play games where they can win hats, t-shirts, slippers, alarm clocks, stuffed animals or whatever else we can get donated. The UAW Region 4 Veterans are able to make this day possible through your generous donations. If you are interested in volunteering, or if you are unable to make it and would still like to contribute in some way please contact us.
