200+mph Street legal Corvette |
||||||||||||||
*In supercharged trim, the engine produced 804hp@7100rpm and 796 ft/lbs. of torque@4100rpm. The project out as a beautful '86 convertible. It was totally disassembled and rebuilt using all new parts (either hi-performance upgrades or OEM). Parts that were upgradeable to newer spec were replaced with '94-'96 new GM parts. Other parts were refurbished as needed. The interior was redone with new carpet, panels, leather seats, etc. The work was started in 7/95 and completed in 4/99. It was professionally built by Mike Mckenzie of Savage Performance. Mike now builds motors for Earnhardt Racing. He's built numerous Corvette racecars. He has also competed in the World Challenge Series with a similarly set-up Corvette (minus the supercharger) and built a car that finished 4th in Car and Driver's "One-Lap of America". This car is an exceptionally high-performance automobile in both handling and acceleration. Though I've never run this car down the 1/4 mile or gone flat-out to see what numbers it would pull, Mike's built Corvettes with 150 fewer horsepower that run the 1/4 in the low 10's on street tires and surpass the "two-ton" (200mph) mark. I've been fortunate enough to drive a number of hyperformance cars such as RUF Porsche Turbo's, Ferraris and various racecars. This is by far the fastest street-legal car I have ever driven... in fact it's stronger than some of the race cars! There are many "drag" cars out there with mega horsepower, but far fewer mega horsepower cars that were built to go around corners! It was built from the ground up as a car to compete in open-road races such as the Silver State Classic where ludicrous 230+mph top speeds are necessary and to compete in local club SCCA type events. It's performance capabilities place it well into the thin-air of the exlusive, elusive modified exotic car realm. -->It's currently in normally-aspirated trim as the blower had been sent back to the manufacturer for an upgrade (even more horsepower) when the opportunity for career change arose and required a move across the country. Even so, the Motec engine management system has been reprogrammed and the car makes a healthy 600hp. For approximately $2000 a Vortech S-trim (or T-trim) blower for which the motor was built will push the motor back over 800hp. With the addition of a larger secondary fuel pump which will allow the engine to reach it's true 7500rpm redline, over 900hp is a reality!! Needless to say, this car is VERY strong platform to satisfy any high-horsepower diet! The car can also be driven on the street and runs on 93 octane that you can buy at just about any corner gas station.. I put the 2500 miles that are on the car now driving it to work. |
