How long have you worked for Vail Fire?
     4 1/2 years

What do you hope to provide?
On this trip I hope to provide quality education and training to the Meru individuals, families, and community.  In addition, I am hoping that this education provides a framework for future generations.

What do you hope to gain?
It's hard for me to think of what I intend to gain, but I feel that an eye opening to culture is probably sure to come.  I have done some traveling, but I assume living in Vail for that last four years has jaded my view of the world.  I am excited to have this experience with my good friends and co-workers and think that this will make for some good fun, greater friendships, and amazing memories.  There is no doubt in my mind that we are laying the foundation for future international humanitarian work within the Vail Fire Department.

What do you hope to provide on this trip?
There are so many facets to this trip that can make a significant impact.  I feel that this trip affords me the opportunity to make possitive changes to the environment, the present situation in Kenya, and the future of this earth, by mentoring and influencing youth on becoming life long humanitarians.  The cliche is to say that if we reach one person, it would all be worth it.  There is no doubt in my mind that this trip will effect significantly more than one.  I also view this trip as the first of many.  I plan to document our work with my photography and believe this will turn into a yearly event for members of the Vail Fire Department.

What do you hope to gain on this trip?
Like most, I have spent my life essentially "taking" on a day to day basis.  I grew up in Orange County, CA taking my privileged life for granted, taking classes I didn't want to take, working for a great wage and hating it, and taking amazing trips throughout the world to take pictures.  Just organinzing this trip has been humbling.  I can only imagine how I will be humbled treating the sick, injured, and burned.  Let alone teaching the potential next burn victim how not to become one.  I again feel selfish for speaking about what I will gain from this trip, but I can at least be put at ease by knowing that it comes from making a difference.

     6 years

What do you hope to provide?
This trip is intended to provide the educational foundation and skill base needed to help reduce and prevent tragedies associated with fire safety and lack of basic first aid including CPR.  Additionally, this humanitarian effort will include medical supply delivery, burn treatment center visits, a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro and will be an example of a carbon neutral endeavor.

What do you hope to gain?
I hope to gain a new perspective on my own life through the lives an experiences of other people, their cultures and their environments.  I hope to provide a positive example of conscientious travel geared towards humanitarianism, eco-sensitivity and adventure.  In the process I hope to strengthen the relationships with my fellow Vail Fire Fighters and to form new friendships with others I meet along the way
