Dues Increase

As expected, the proposal to increase National dues by $3.00 per year
was passed at the National Convention. This increase is effective
January 1, 2002. We, at the post level, have not yet determined if
all or part of this increase will need to be passed on to our members.
We approved our post budget at the August meeting, with full knowledge
that this increase had passed. We are confident that we can get through
this fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2002. However, we will need
to further analyze our financial condition to determine the future
impact. As post commander, I will appoint a committee of officers for the
purpose of making a recommendation to the membership concerning a
possible dues increase. I expect their report at the October 22,
2001 meeting. If their recommendation is for a dues increase, it
will be placed before the membership in the form of a motion at the same
meeting. A matter of such importance deserves appropriate notice be given prior
to voting. Therefore, I hope to use my influence to table the motion
until the November 26, 2001 meeting in order to afford all members
the opportunity to have their voices heard on this matter. I am not
the final authority on this matter. There is no rule that prohibits
voting on this matter when it comes up. I would recommend that, if
you have strong feelings on this subject, you plan to attend the October
meeting. If the vote is delayed until November, we will publish the
committee recommendation in the newsletter for distribution prior
to that meeting. Any increase by the post would be effective on January
1, 2002. I strongly recommend you pay your 2002 dues prior to the
end of this year to avoid paying any potential increase. Annual dues
are still only $25.00. Please refer to the last newsletter for the
lifetime membership dues schedule, or call me at 425-227-7757.
