Dan Beech enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944. After basic training he qualified to attend Officers Candidate School and was commissioned 2LT, He participated in the Normandy landings and fought through France to Berlin. He returned to the U.S. as a Captain in late 1945 and was assigned to the Infantry School, Ft. Benning, GA where he was an instructor until 1948. The reduction in force after the war took his commission and he was grade determined to be a Master Sergeant. He entered the Korean War in 1950 and fought in that war until 1953 where he served on the demilitarized zone after the war for several months until he was transferred back to Ft. Benning, GA. At Ft. Benning he was responsible for live fire exercises in support of the Infantry School. In 1963 he was sent to Saigon, Vietnam where he was on the planning staff for the build-up of forces that came in 1965. He returned to Panama as the CSM of the US Army Caribbean until his retirement in 1969. After serving as an ROTC instructor from 1969 -1975 he returned to Panama and was hired as the Director of Ammunition for the 193 d Infantry Brigade.
During his service as a military officer and enlisted man Mr. Beech was awarded many combat and civilian awards. He holds several Bronze Stars for heroism, the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman's Badge, and many letters of commendations as a civilian. He is a member of the Crossroads Bible Church, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and is an avid fisherman.

Comrade Dan Beech was laid to rest January 30, 2007
Members of the VFW Posts in Panama conducted the Burial Ritual. The American flag was presented to Mrs. Beech. A Bible was also presented from the Post 3835 Ladies Auxiliary.
