Lt. Garvyn Hugh Moumblow
Garvyn Hugh Moumblow was born in the Colon (R. de P.) Hospital on August 22, 1927. He lived in Gatun and graduated in 1945 from Cristobal High School. He always wanted to fly in airplanes, so upon graduation he entered into the U.S. Navy and was a Photographers Mate flying in PBY's doing aerial photography.
Garvyn was discharged from the Navy and attended Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater, Oklahoma. While in college, he was in R.O.T.C. and was commissioned as a 2 d Lt. In the U.S. Air Force.
He took basic training in Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas and was trained in single engine aircraft in Valdosta, Ga. He took jet fighter training at Eglin AEB in Ft Walton Beach, Florida and was checked out in F-94 fighters. His first duty station was Elmendorf AFB in Alaska. On April 2, 1953, Garvyn took off from Elmendorf and had radar and altimeter problems. His aircraft crashed into Mt. Susitna, 12 feet from the top of the mountain. He and his Radar Navigator were buried together in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

VFW Department Veterans Service Office is located in the Hospital National Clinic, Room 110. Hospital National Clinic is located on Calle 38 between Ave. Justo Arosemena and Ave. Cuba. Telephone number is 227-5444, ask for ext.110. The Service Office is open to all veterans as well as non-VFW members. Office hours 9-1PM Monday,Wednesday and Friday
