March 11, 2001 The Honorable Mark Green United States House of Representatives 700 E. Walnut St. Green Bay, WI 54301 Dear Representative Green: I am writing to urge you to do all you can to pass House of Representatives Bill’s H.R. 303 IH; H.R. 65; and H.R. 609, bills that would end the current practice of deducting disabled military retirees’ Veterans Administration (VA) disability compensation from the retired pay they earned for completing a career in the armed services. Military retired pay and a veteran’s disability compensation are supposed to be paid for two different purposes, and should not be used to offset the other. Each is earned in its own right – military retired pay for serving 20 or more years in the armed services, and VA compensation for injuries suffered during those military years while protecting the United States. Those who accept the extraordinary demands and sacrifices inherent with serving our great country deserve better. Please support, pass, and fund H.R. 303 IH; H.R. 65; and H.R. 609. Sincerely,
