Drive-by shooting
Victor P. Gendrano
Overnight, the street corner blossoms with flowers some in clusters, a few tied with ribbons in vases, and others evidently just plucked out from gardens that day. Interspered with the flowers are votive candles with their lights flickering lazily in the cloudy but bright morning.
In the center is a framed picture of the victim, a high school student, who was shot the night before. Then there are the mourners huddled quietly against each other trying to console themselves and come to grips with the grim reality of the drive-by shooting. With defiant resignation, they talk in whispers.
