MOTHERHOOD

Victor P. Gendrano

(For Jasmine and Lana)

Mother's day
my daughter brings her daughter
as a peace offering

plastic pool
my granddaughter frolics
in her birthday suit

eighteenth birthday
she dances with strangers
my daughter's daughter
if I feel such a pain
how about her father

a cocoon rides
the autumn wind
her empty room

early spring
my daughter's daughter now
a new mother

summertime
my granddaughter's daughter
pulls my all-gray hair

Published in my book, Rustle of bamboo leaves
