Fantastic World Of Super Mario Brothers 3 is an arranged album consisting of 5 tracks taken from the game.
"In The Fantastic Mood" is what I consider to be the showmans song. It is a very jolly happy number and reminds me of something of a jazz/blues number you'd get at the circus! The song is catchy and bouncy. "I Can't Help Fighting You" is a very anime rock styled piece which is varied and fast paced but despite some nifty inclusions of little segments of the original sound, the tune itself didnt really catch my attention. "Mario Concerto" did catch my attention with a nice synth orchestrated song with a cute and clumsy main tune that happily plods its way through. "The End Of The Fantastic World" is the finale piece that sounds like a national anthem before going into a little chirpy bolero/salsa fusion number. The song evolves so it never stays boring.
With the arranged songs over the final track is a 10 minute sample of Original Sound! "Super Mario Bros 3 Original Sound Story ~Selected Medley~" takes many, many different songs and loops them seemlessly into eachother as if you were playing the game itself. However the superb music which is surprisingly crystal clear for synth music, is drowned out by constant sound effects over the top. While they're jolly and fun too its the constant assult of them that annoys. It would have been better to have small sections of effects or even a seperate track.
This album may be desirable for its heritage but unfortunately the arrangements are short and forgettable and the superb original sound is ruined by effects. Only die hards fans of the series should try this album out - I was left very dissapointed.
