According to death certificate there were 9 children.
In 1844 they contracted to go to Port Fairy to work on a pastoral property named Dunmore.
The following is an extract from "Pioneer Merchant, The Letters of James Graham 1839 - 54" by Sally Graham; published by Hyland House. It is the 1844 letter to William Campbell (a co-owner at the time of the Port Fairy property) regarding the hiring of the Marr family:
8 October 1844
I now write a few lines by Adam Marr whom, along with his wife Isabella, I have engaged as general servants for you for six months at the rate of £20 a year. I have known the man for some time and believe him to be a very honest hardworking man and he has also been very strongly recommended to me by our mutual friend Mr. Westgarth, whose letter testifying to his capabilities I enclose for your perusal. The woman seems also strong and active. The only drawback against them is their having three children but I understand they do not require the attentions of their mother so very much as to prevent her going through ordinary work. You will perceive I have endeavored to counterbalance the number of children by giving them a very low rate of wages, £20 a year and only double rations. I enclose their agreement which I think you will find stringent enough regarding the woman obeying Mrs. Laidlaw. I have bound them down tight I think in every respect, indeed I am sure much tighter than you would like to enforce should you be pleased with the conduct and services of both. Their passage per the cutter Domain £4 I have paid for you, one half of which is to be deducted from their wages.
Perusal of the "Dunmore Journals - The Diaries of Charles Hamilton McKnight 1841 - 1873" indicate that Adam and family worked on the property for approximately 5 months before moving on to work with Lieut. Robert Chamberlin, who with a Dr. Bernard settled on Tarrone (not far from Dunmore) in 1845.
