Our mission is to prevent and eliminate
violence and hate speech against lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender
(GLBT) people. |
 |
We will achieve this by identifying the
causes and extent of violence and hate speech against the GLBT communities,
and developing violence prevention strategies. |
 |
The AVP was reinvigourated in June 2000 building on the momentum of a previous community AVP forum. We have been successful in obtaining funding from the Reichstein Foundation for an anti-homophobia campaign. Details of this innovative campaign will be announced shortly, in the mean time the AVP are well underway in its development. Further funding initiatives are in the pipeline - should you have any suggestions about funding sources or campaign directions please email us.
 |
The AVP is happy to provide referral to agencies who are positioned to provide direct care for GLBT victims of violence. |
| |
We also refer victims of violence to the network of Gay & Lesbian Liaison Officers which work in all police regions within the State of Victoria, and when able will assist with victim interview processes. The AVP always suggests victims of violence should call police on 000 first, then make contact with us. |
