"Christina Morphova" choir was founded in 1936 by Lyudmila Prokopova to become a sounding memorial of famous Bulgarian opera singer Christina Morphova- the Bulgarian Nightingale. From the beginning till present the choir has taken a significant part in Bulgarian choral society and culture. "Christina Morphova" was the first Bulgarian choir to win a first prize in a competition - at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales,UK in 1965. The choir had won gold medals and prizes at the national festivals and international choral competitions in LLangollen and Middlesborough(UK), Varna (Bulgaria), Leipzig (Germany), Gorizia (Italy),Tolosa (Spain),Ankara(Turkey) et.c. The repertoire of the choir includes works from different musical styles and epochs - from choral miniature to cantata-oratorio form and from baroque music to nowadays pieces. For more than 45 years artistic director of the choir had been the famous Bulgarian conductor professor Lilia Gyuleva * Since 2003 principal artistic director has been prof.Emil Yanev.For a long period he had worked with prof.Gyuleva on choral art and conducting.
