28 Days Later
[DVD Info]

A group of animal rights activists in England break into a lab full of monkeys. The scientist catches them and tells them to stop. The monkeys are infected with rage. It’s highly contagious and it’s in their blood and in their saliva…one bite and… Of course the minute they release one of the simians it attacks the nearest activist and her other partners beat the monkey off of her (nice activist)…but it’s too late. She immediately starts throwing up blood and throws some up in her friend’s eyes. Her eyes begin to glow red and so it begins…

28 Days Later…

Meet Jim (Cillian Murphy), he wakes up naked one day in an abandoned hospital. He puts on some hospital duds and wanders around aimlessly for 15 minutes (well…maybe less…but it felt like forever). As night falls, he stumbles into a church full of people. When he calls out “hello” a priest comes running towards him acting spastic and weird. He hits the priest and runs. A few people from the church start to chase him and he’s saved by Selena (Naomie Harris) and Mark (Noah Huntley). They explain to him that a virus that is in blood broke out almost 4 weeks ago. The virus is spreading and it’s turning everyone into zombies (or as they call them… “the infected”). There is no police, no army, and no government. Nothing. Jim says that he must go find his parents to see if they’re alright. Selena predicts they’re already dead but Jim insists they go. When they arrive at his parent’s residence, Jim finds them dead; they committed suicide, leaving him a note. The trio stay the night and are attacked by the infected. Mark gets infected and before he can change, Selena hacks him into bits and kills him. Selena and Jim take off and they see a signal in the distance. After following the signal they meet Frank (Brendan Gleeson) and his daughter Hannah (Megan Burns). Together they travel to Manchester where they heard, from a radio broadcast, that there is an army with a cure for the infected. Will they even survive the trip? If they get there will anyone even be left alive?

Animal Rights Activists will break and enter to save animal's lives but think nothing of beating a monkey to death.
It may be the end of the world as we know it but pepsi is there to quench your thirst.

"You'd never think it. Needing rain. Not in fucking England." ~Frank.

Meh...I dunno...

I think this movie’s biggest problem was all the hype it got as being one of the scariest movies ever. When they build it up like that, 90% of the time it can’t deliver…and this movie did just that. It starts out being kind of dark and mysterious…I can say…the only time I really jumped was because it was quiet for so long and all of a sudden you heard a loud noise. The “infected” were blurry and the camera never held onto one for more than a few seconds. After we meet Frank and Hannah (by the way…Frank was the BEST character), it starts to get lighthearted and whatnot. You assume that it’s the calm before the storm…but when it starts to pick up again, it’s not scary nor is it even about “the infected” anymore. It really takes a turn towards human behavior and how they act in desperate situations and what they’d do if they were forced to create their own mini society. Jim’s character was kind of unbelievable. He spends 80% of the movie completely useless and then right at the end he becomes a sub-human. I’m sure that’s something that would happen under stress…but I dunno…It would have been more believable if Jim didn't spend most of the film barely able to chew his own food (metaphorically speaking). Maybe if he'd shown signs of strength or something. Then, after his crazy behavior…he becomes a docile little lamb again. It just seemed like it started out being about one thing, to lure you in, and then the ending was about something completely different and kinda stupid (much like Dreamcatcher). Another thing that was hyped up was the alternate ending which were stupid and didn’t help the movie by any means. Too much hype = disappointment. This wasn’t a bad movie by any means…but it seemed to have an agenda…and those ruin movies. Not very scary and is boring at times. If the character of Frank wasn’t in the movie…it would’ve gotten one star. Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
