Blair Witch Project 2: Book of Shadows
(2000)

[DVD Info]

In autumn of 1999, after the cult success of The Blair Witch Project, four people decide to take a tour through the forest where the Blair Witch was filmed. Jeff (Jeffery Donovan) is the tour leader. He’s a little quirky, maybe because he had a frontal lobotomy at his stay at the mental institution. He’s seems normal enough though. Stephen (Stephen Barker Turner) is on the tour for research. He wants to prove that the whole Blair Witch myth is a result of hysteria. His girlfriend Trista (Tristine Skyler) is pregnant. He wants the baby and she doesn’t. Erica (Erica Leerhrsen) is a Wiccan. She’s on the tour because she wants the Blair Witch to become her mentor. Kim (Kim Director) is a gothic girl who’s a little bit psychic. She’s on the tour ‘cause she liked the movie.

On the first night they set up camp, get drunk, smoke some weed, and contemplate the meaning of life. They sober up a bit when they hear screams and come face to face with another Blair Witch tour. They trick them into going to another place where a sacrifice happened a long time ago. That night Trista has a strange dream about her drowning a baby. The next morning they find all their stuff ruined and about 5 hours of their lives they can’t account for. Kim uses her psychic powers to find the tapes, which are hidden under some rocks, undamaged. Trista starts feeling not so well and notices that she is bleeding heavily, y’know…down there. They rush her to the hospital where she learns that she had a miscarriage. The doctors say that it was from hypothermia, but she doesn’t believe it.

They go back to Jeff’s house (which is actually an abandoned warehouse full of stolen merchandise) to check out the tapes to find out who destroyed their stuff. They see strange images on the video and the time stamp jump around in time. They pause it to see a naked girl on the video. When they filter out the image they see that the naked girl is actually Erica. Both Erica and Kim have weird markings on their body; Erica says they’re the mark of the witch. Erica suddenly disappears and Krista seems to be going crazy. Have they brought the curse of the Blair Witch back with them?

Hypothermia causes miscarriages.
Wiccans like guys with short tempers.
Goths wear make up that won’t smudge after 2 days, but wil be easily removed with a swipe of a tissue.
You can have a lobotomy and be mostly normal.

" You know, there's a lot of nay Sayers who come and say nay." ~Jeff.

They tried to pass it off as a “based on a true story” movie again.

This movie was surprising. I’ve heard such horrible things about this movie I expected it to be absolute crap. I think it was definitely black lash against the first Blair Witch movie. I was looking at reviews of the first BWP movie and everyone said it was super lame and way over hyped, but SOMEONE made that movie popular in the first place. I really liked the first movie. It still gives me the creeps, especially the end when you see the guy standing in the corner before the girl's killed. Phew, I’m done. That creeps me out hardcore. Anyway, I was expecting a knock off of the first one or just some super lame slasher movie starring the Blair Witch. This was neither. I was a little irked that they started it off with “this is a true story” crap…that worked very well for the first one (no one could convince me it wasn’t real for the longest time), but give it a rest. Obviously this didn’t happen. If it did, you’d have heard something about it on the news. It started off well. There were some scenes that made my heart jump (even my whole body jumped at some points) and they used some effects that gave me the willies (people standing in the room staring at you when you don’t know it and not having a face, ugh!). However, as with all horror movies these days, it lost a lot of its steam as soon as it tried to explain what was going on. Just another piece of horror eye candy. But impressive. I’d watch it again. With naked dancing, drug use, creepy children, rednecks, insane asylum flashbacks, orgies (btw, why do orgies always involve doggie style??), girl on girl kissing, girl on owl action, and naked killing, the jury gives this flick:
