Where ya goin' city boy?

Deliverance
[DVD Info]

The 70's cult classic "Deliverance" is about four friends; Lewis Medlock (Burt Reynolds) is the leader (and self proclaimed mountain man) and oozes machismo, Ed Gentry (Jon Voight) the hero, Bobby Trippe (Ned Beatty) the token fat, useless guy who gets the worst of this little trip and Drew Ballinger (Ronny Cox) the good guy. They're from Atlanta and they go up to a river that's going to be turned into a giant lake in a few months. Unfortunately for them they chose the wrong river to go down! While enjoying the peaceful river they stop in an area and have a run in with some inbreds who are in the mood for a little pig squealin'.

"C'mon boy! Squeal like a piggy!" ~Mountain Man.

I dunno what it is about movies and loooooooong pauses. It's annoying to me though. Heh...stupid I know.

This movie was really overrated. It was good but I was just expecting a lot more. Burt Reynolds' character cracked me up. He was *so* what it was to be manly in the 70's. Ahh...cracks me up. Anyway...the infamous "squeal like a piggy" scene was pretty brutal. There is of course an underlying message about what it is to "do the right thing" and it's interesting to watch how people's roles change when they're under stress or in danger (like how Lewis goes from the leader to helpless and Ed goes from helpless to the leader). I now fear inbreds because of this movie (and have required a new love for the banjo). Be sure see watch this movie if you are planning a trip down a river in hillbilly country. Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
