This is one of those movies you absolutely love and completely hate at the same time. It was a well done movie portraying the life of John Merrick, who was an amazing human being and must have been the kindest and most honest person in the world. But as the film goes on you see the horrible things people say and do to this man (especially the circus freak owner who beat him, starved him, and locked him up in a cage next to monkeys, and the security guard who taunted him and brought people to harass him) because of his condition. I lost all faith I had in humanity because of this movie. It was such a sad and haunting movie (in black and white...it definitely wouldn't've had the same impact if it were in color) and John Merrick was a beautiful person. However, as beautiful as this movie was...I don't think I could ever watch it again. My heart broke for him and I felt myself filled with despair and emptiness that a man had to live a life like that. Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
