I love being bathed in the sink - such a feeling of security.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
[DVD Info]

One day Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) wakes up out of sorts. Instead of going to work, he decides to go to Montauk, which is weird cause he’s not spontaneious. On his trip he meets a girl named Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet). She has blue hair and comes off as sort of abrasive. She says everything that comes to mind. At the end of the day, she invites him into the house.

A few years later Joel finds out that Clementine had him erased from her mind after they got into a big fight. Devastated, he decides to erase her from his mind. While he’s getting his memories erased Patrick (Elijah Wood), a technician at Lacuna (the company that does the memory erasing), falls in love with Clementine and uses Joel’s memories to make her fall in love with him. Joel decides half way through that he doesn’t want Clementine erased from his memory and tries to hide her in memories where she doesn’t belong. Will he succeed or will the love of his life be gone forever?

"Valentine's Day is a holiday invented by greeting card companies to make people feel like crap." ~Joel.

Surprisingly...nothing!

In all honesty, when I picked up this movie at the video store, I had low expectations. First of all…I really dislike Jim Carrey. I think he’s very one dimensional as a character and all his characters are the same in all his movies. Second, a DVD Review site I used to go to all the time LOVED this movie, and they have horrible tastes in movies (not to mention horrible personalities…but I digress). Well…I couldn’t be any more wrong. This movie was just…beautiful. I don’t think it can be described in any other way. It really touched something inside of me. I think every person in the world wishes they could erase a bad memory from their lives, I know I do…especially when it comes to past boyfriends. You forget there was a reason why you were initially attracted to the person and all the messy breaking up stuff makes you forget that there were good times once (sometimes this isn’t true and I’ve been there too…it was never good).

I applaud Jim Carrey for breaking out of his stereotype and playing someone real, someone who isn’t just a funny face. All of his emotions just poured out of the screen and onto the person watching the movie. Truly amazing. Kate Winslet was really awesome in the movie too. Her character really is the complete selfishness and wild abandon that I think every girl feels deep down. And I can’t say enough about her wardrobe. Oh my god! It was awesome! I wanted it all. Haha.

I popped in the DVD and wrote a few notes in the beginning and then all of a sudden, the movie was over and I had barely anything written down. I was totally enthralled by the entire movie and thought it was wonderful. If you have any reservations about seeing this movie because of the name or who’s in it…put them aside and see it anyway. You’ll be pleasantly surprised! Because of this, the jury gives this flick:

In Love
