Sometimes I think I wasn't meant to see...

The Eye
[DVD Info]

Wong Kar Mun (Angelica Lee) has been blind since the age of 2. One day, she goes to the hospital and receives a cornea transplant. The surgery goes well and when she first begins to open her eyes, she can see once again! Her vision is very blurry but it’s just her body adapting. One night, while at the hospital she sees a man enter the room that she shares with others. He goes to a lady and they leave together. The next morning she finds out that the woman across from her passed away last night. Mun swears that impossible since she had a visitor that night. Mun doesn’t really know what to expect since she isn’t psychologically adapted to seeing, which results in strange encounters with people she’s comes in contact with. People she meets seem to act weird and as soon as someone else comes in the room, the people seem to just disappear. Mun doesn’t understand what’s going on is what she seeing real or just her eyes playing tricks on her?

"Were you reincarnated into the wrong body? Why are you so different from the rest of the family?" ~Dr. Lo.

The guy who plays Dr. Lo (the young one) is pretty cuuute. Other than that...Nooooone!

In all my life of movie watching, I have never seen a movie that has literally given me goose bumps and sent chills down my spine. This movie was definitely the first one that has done that for me. It’s very psychological, how they use sounds and darkness to scare the living daylights out of you. Excuse my language but this movie scared the fucking daylights out of me. Now, if you really want to be scared…don’t read the description on the back of the box. I had already heard what happened and so I didn’t feel the confusion that the main character felt because I already knew. Even though it was subtitled (it was in Cantonese) it didn’t take away from the film at all (although I’m a seasoned veteran at reading subtitles). The Eye was like the cross between Ringu and The Ring. It make sense if you’ve seen both plus this movie. I don’t know if I liked the ending or didn’t. On one hand…I’m happy the way it ended because it didn’t leave you feeling scared or full of dread…that means I won’t have bad dreams or a hard time sleeping tonight. On the other hand…the ending was almost (almost, mind you) a cop out. It wraps itself up in a neat little package and it doesn’t seem to fully go with the pace of the movie. But, regardless of the ending…this was some scary shat. Like the dude on the elevator? And her reflection? Ahhh! Just thinking about it gives me chills. This was a really good scary movie. If you can scare me, then it’s a successful horror movie (as I’m pretty nonchalant about it in general…I’m rarely scared). Probably one of the best I’ve seen in a while. Highly recommended! Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
