5 Med-school students; Nelson Wright (Kiefer Sutherland) who's motto is "Today is a good day to die!" came up with the idea, Rachel Mannus (Julia Roberts) a woman who is fascinated with people who have near death experiences and what they see, David Labraccio (Kevin Bacon) the loose cannon who gets suspended for 4 months for taking over surgery, Joe Hurley (William Baldwin) the playboy who is engaged but films his sexual exploits without consent, and the bumbling Randy Steckle (Oliver Platt) who never kills himself but is there to help out, become fascinated with death after they perform controlled experiments of killing themselves and coming back to life. Every time one goes, they go for a longer period of time (the longest being nine minutes) but after they come back to life they start to see the sins they hadn't atoned for coming back to haunt them.

"You're bringing the equipment and I'll bring my balls." ~Nelson Wright.

How is it that they steal thousands of dollars worth of equipment and no one notices it's missing? Also...how is it that they are storing this equipment in an old church (that's being remodeled) and no one notices it there?

I'm glad that people in the movies can figure stuff out, like where to find people even though they have no clue where they are. If it was left up to me...I wouldn't figure anything out and everyone would be dead ^^;

The ending of this movie was very "Hollywood". It didn't seem to flow with the rest of the movie's vibe about hopelessness and atonement. Baldwin's character never even atoned for his! However! I was amused by the film and I got really into it and it was good! Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
