Home Sweet Home...is MURDER!

Flowers in th Attic
[DVD Info]

Christopher (Jeb Stuart Adams), Cathy (Kristy Swanson...from Buffy the movie!), Cory (Ben Ryan Ganger), and Carrie (Lindsay Parker) were living a perfect life. After their father died, they were forced to sell all their belongings and go live with their grandparents (of whom they’ve never see or heard of up until this point). While their grandfather is dying the mother (who’s name apparently is mother…hehe, just kidding, I think it’s Corrine [notice a pattern here? Their father's name is Christopher]) tries to get back in his good graces (He disowned her because she married her uncle) and become rich beyond their wildest dreams.

The Grandmother (Louise Fletcher) thinks that, because the children are products of incest, they are the spawn of the devil and she locks them in a room 24 hours a day. After the mother receives 17 lashes with a whip (one for every year she lived in sin) she tells the children of a (not so) secret passageway to the attic where they can escape to. Soon Grandmother stops feeding them and Cory (one of the youngest) starts to get really sick and Carrie (his twin) starts to get sores on her arms. They all start to lose weight and get really pale from lack of sunlight. They want to believe in their mother, but after she stops coming to visit, they feel forgotten. How long will they be held prisoners? Will they ever escape?

Life insurance policies didn't exist in the 80's. ESPECIALLY not for rich, white men.
Kids don't think there is anything wrong with being locked in a room because it's all part of God's plan.
Butler's always pause before doing anything (ie: walking, picking stuff up).

"Take off your blouse and show them how punishment is done around here." ~Grandmother.

It kinda bothered me that everyone talked like they were from the 20's. With their "Yes Dears" and "Mother" and whatnot.

By the way...the tag line is both stupid and hilarious. "Home Sweet Home...is MURDER" Ahahahaha... More...see below.

This film was based off the book (with the same name) by V.C. Andrews. I have to say, I was disappointed with the lack of incest…not that I rented it for the sole purpose of seeing incest (alright…I lie…that was ONE of the reasons I wanted to see it…but only ‘cause I wanted to see how the movie was going to turn out with that stuff). They kinda mention it briefly with the parents being uncle and niece but that’s it. There were some undertones though (Cathy seemed to like her father a bit too much, and Christopher seemed to like his mother a bit too much as well) but they were stupid and I only saw them ‘cause I was expecting it. Besides that, it was also very melodramatic in a very cheesy way. They played the same background music the entire movie…and how is it that the grandmother was never charged with child abuse and murder? It was a pretty thin plot. All it made me want to do is go read the book. You lied to me I LOVE THE 80’S! LIED! Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
