Hedwig

Hedwig and the Angry Inch
[DVD Info]

This is a rock musical (not unlike "Rocky Horror Picture Show") about a boy named Hansel (John Cameron Mitchell) from East Berlin, who falls in love with a black lieutenant named Luther (Maurice Dean Wint). In order to get married and move to America he has to get a sex change but it gets botched and leaves him with an "angry inch." Cut to present day and she's a rock singer who sings in restaurants. She's changed her name to "Hedwig" and she has a vendetta against Tommy Gnosis (Michael Pitt) who was a former lover and stole all her songs (which were number one in the music charts). Will she ever find peace? Or at least recognition for her songs?

"The apartment was so small that my mother made me play in the oven." ~Hedwig.

The soundtrack was really awesome and the story line was sad. All she was looking for was her second half and she had to suffer a lot of the way. It was weird...but good. Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
