Hellraiser
[DVD Info]

Julia (Clare Higgins) and Larry Cotton (Andrew Robinson) are moving back into an old house, that used to belong to his family, in order to reconcile their marriage. Julia once had an affair with Larry’s brother Frank (Sean Chapman) who disappeared a while ago. While moving, Julia goes up to the attic while having vivid memories of her torrid love affair. Larry goes to her in the attic after gashing his hand open with a nail and his blood spills all on the floor. The blood causes Frank, who was killed in the attic while doing a satanic-like ritual, to be resurrected. Julia hears a strange noise in the attic after a dinner party and she discovers the half revived Frank. He asks her to find him more blood so he can fully change. Still under the control he had over her in life she starts to bring men home with her and kills them in the attic while Frank sucks their blood out with his fingers. Each time a little more of him comes back to life. Kirsty (Ashley Laurence) is Larry’s daughter. Larry notices that Julia has been acting weird and she asks Kirsty to check up on her step-mom and make peace. When she shows up, she sees Julia leading a man into the house. Kirsty thinks she’s cheating on her dad and sneaks in to check it out. She then comes face to face with her uncle. He tries to kill her but she gets away and steals the box that killed him in the first place. Next thing Kirsty knows she’s in the hospital. The doctor gives her the box hoping to jog her memory of what happened. After playing with the box she accidentally opens a hidden door to another world calling on Cenobites who want to kill her. Will she be able to convince them that it was an accident and that her uncle slipped through their system? Or will she be dead before she can prove it…

When you kill someone and their blood drains out it sounds like something going down the drain.
Nurses need Doctors to speak for them.

"[We are] explorers in the further regions of experience. Demons to some. Angels to others." ~Pinhead/Lead Cenobite.

*shivers*

I was expecting this flick to be a totally lame 80’s slasher flick with cheesy lines and lame acting. Well…boy was I wrong! Hellraiser had some of the best special effects I have ever seen. It was gory and nasty and GREAT! When Larry is first coming to life though…his arms look elongated and I almost died. That’s some freaky shiznit right there. The fish man thing had some long-ish arms too…he was using them to push him along the wall. *shivers* Ewwww! One thing I was disappointed about was that they really took the time to make the Cenobites look so cool and they were barely in the movie. They collectively have, like, 10 lines and the movie was mostly about the crazy wife who was, well, crazy. I mean you have to be to lick your ex-lover’s finger when it’s mostly bone and slime. Aha….one thing that was REALLY lame, however, were the effects at the end with the box. It was so…cartoon-y and didn’t fit the rest of the movie. Anyway, this was a really great horror movie with awesome special effects. It wasn’t scary but the fx were creepy and the character’s make-up and costumes were crazy! I was totally freaked out by the guy whose lips were all pulled back and his teeth were always chattering. Eee! Definitely a must see! Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
