Mothman Prophecies, The
[DVD Info]

John Klein (Richard Gere) is a top reporter in Washington D.C. One night, after driving home from house hunting, he and his wife (Debra Messing) get into a car accident. Right before the accident his wife saw a moth-like man coming at her. After her death, he sees a notebook she was drawing in at the hospital and in it were scary pictures of a moth-like man she had seen. Two years later, John is still distraught over his wife's death and goes for a drive at 1 am. While driving his car breaks down and when he stops at someone's house to use their phone. There he's held a (shot)gun point. The man said that this is the 4th night in a row that John has come knocking at their door at 2:30 in the morning. When the town cop, Connie Parker (Laura Linney) shows up, she defuses the situation and gives him a ride to a motel until his car is fixed. When John asks where he was she points to a sign "Point Pleasant, VA." How did he drive 400 miles in an hour? What's even weirder is the longer he stays, the more similarities between the people in this town and his wife's death he finds. How can so many people see the same figure if it’s not real? Who is this "mothman" and what does he want?

"You're more advanced than a cockroach but try to explain yourself to one." ~Alexander Leek.

Richard Gere is a good actor but his love scenes are soooooooo....blech. I wonder if he's gay... 'cause they're so unnatural (not gay people...his love scenes).

This film was really, really interesting. This was definitely a psychological thriller. There was no gore and they barely showed the mothman...in fact, if you think about it...not much really happened. There was a lot of talking and a lot of long pauses. Usually this is annoying because there is no action at all… but I kept getting chills through the whole movie! For the whole movie you’re waiting for something to happen and you’re completely fascinated with this Monthman guy and the fact that he knows who you are and calls you on the phone. It was bothersome that it really didn't explain anything though. I guess because it's based on a true story they CAN'T explain it but I wanted to know mooooore! They're so vague! ;_; Like, how can his wife call him from beyond the grave? How were people getting calls from people that died a few hours before? How do these Mothmen know everything about you? ^_^; Oh well...before I give away the whole movie... One thing I was disappointed in was the fact that this whole Mothman thing happened in the 70’s, and if they were going to base the movie on true events they should have kept the era as well. It's really good and had a very involving story but it felt like it was lacking a bit... There was no closure and just sort of ends. Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
