Phantoms
[DVD Info]

Two sisters, Jenny (Joanna Going) and Lisa Pailey (Rose McGowan) arrive in Snowfield, CO to see the town of 400 mysteriously quiet. Jenny abducted her sister Lisa from L.A. to make her visit her and to get her away from their drugged out mom. When they come to Jenny’s house and medical practice they find Jenny’s maid dead on the floor. They hear sounds coming from upstairs and they run to the car thinking the killer is still in the house. For some reason the car won’t start so they hightail it to the police station. There they discover the head sheriff dead and no one else in sight. Jenny and Lisa search the town looking from any survivors of what Jenny assumes to be some sort of plague. Finally, they run into 2 deputies and a sheriff, Stew (Liev Schreiber), Steve (Nicky Katt), and Bryce Hammond (Ben Affleck). As they search through the town they find they’re being stalked by something…something evil… Will help arrive on time or will the flesh eating creature kill them all?

Sometimes police background checks on their officers fail to mention lusts for necrophilia and pedophiles.
A strobe light isn't a good kind of light to shoot with.
God-like alien creatures like to do the limbo.
Shooting a syringe through a shot gun is very possible.

"Oh...you've got guns. You ladies wouldn't shoot an unarmed man would you? [sounds of guns being cocked] ...Dumb question." ~Stew.

With all these movies I've been watching featuring the lovely Rose McGowan...I've noticed two things. 1) Rose looks an awful lot like the look Michael Jackson was probably trying to achieve...but before his nose became a joke. 2) In almost every single one of her movies she wears a ribbed turtleneck. They don't look bad...but there's quite the abundance of it.

Thank goodness! If I saw one more movie featuring Rose McGowan that made me want to stick a fork in my eye…well…I would’ve done so! This was a very decent movie! It was never boring and had some good moments. I never read Dean Koontz’s book but he produced it so I’m sure it’s pretty accurate. Rose McGowan’s character in this movie was TOTALLY useless…and I don’t understand why she was even in the movie. The whole concept of the “alien-god-like-devil” thing was kind of lame but what can you do. This movie really reminded me of a cross between Mothman Prophecies, Alien, and a dash of Dreamcatcher. Also...from its description and cover art...it tried to come off as Tremors. I hated Stew but once he was taken over by the alien he was HILARIOUS, charming, and very cute without those rapist glasses. And the dog was sooooo cute. I liked the way he sat there and watched. This was an overdramatic flick that made me jump a few times and was interesting. Ben Affleck was decent (and thank god he got those disgusting teeth done over…have you seen him in those Kevin Smith movies [I’m mostly thinking of Chasing Amy]?? Ew!) and he didn’t overact. I think…once you knew who was killing and why it got kind of lame and all…plus…they should never talk science in movies…it’s never what they’re talking about… Heh. Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
