Roger Swanson (Campbell Scott) is a bachelor who thinks that he knows everything about women. He was currently seeing is his boss, Joyce (Isabella Rossellini), on the sly…but she broke it off for, seemingly, no apparent reason and he becomes obsessed with her. The day after the break up, he finds his cousin, Nick (Jesse Eisenberg), in his cubicle waiting for him. They go out to dinner and chitchat for a bit…but then Nick exposes his real reason for visiting his uncle. Nick has heard from his mother that Roger is quite the ladies man. Nick’s 16…he doesn’t know how to deal with the ladies…will Uncle Roger teach him how? Roger reluctantly agrees and takes him around New York to bars and sex clubs to meet women and teach him the analytical way to get a woman (his favorite phrase… “sex is everywhere”). As he helps his nephew become a smaller version of himself (head games and all) he starts to discover that he doesn’t know as much about women as he thought and he still has a lot to learn...but is it too late to salvage the mess that is his life?
30 year old women like 16 year old boys.
Most bouncers in New York just take your word for it when asking if you're of legal age to go into a sex club.
"He talks to [his computer] like it's a person...like, 'Bitch ate my flie' or 'It's playing hard to get'." ~Nick.
Rrrmm...see below...
Yeah…I totally did not like this movie at all. I don’t see why people put it in such high regard. This movie, was like watching Waking Life but instead of it being a bunch of different pompous jerk offs trying to sound like they know what they’re talking about…it was just one guy…spouting all this garbage about women. He wasn’t sexist or anything (not that that bothers me)…it was just how condescending and matter-o-fact he was about it. He’d go up to ladies in bars and rudely psychoanalyze their relationships and pretty much tell them they were stupid (like they’d be any better off with him). He was just an asshole. I don’t know if that was the point of the movie…but he certainly didn’t evolve as the movie went on. He started off as a pompous prick and ended as one as well…and not only that…he passed on his creepiness to his nephew. People who think they’re god’s gift to women… rarely are. This movie was a total miss and was not only implausible (while trying to hide behind some sort of realism) but down right stupid. I hope that the writers don’t think women are as stupid as they portrayed them in this movie. Blech…skip this one. Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
