We were anarchists.

SLC Punk
[DVD Info]

Steveo (Matthew Lillard…one of the killer guys from Scream) is an anarchist punk in Salt Lake City (SLC…Salt Lake City…ya get it?). The year is 1985…Steveo lives with his best friend “Heroin” Bob (Michael A. Goorjian), who’s actually really uptight and doesn’t even do drugs because he’s afraid of needles. They’re both angry, anarchist punks who believe in chaos and nonconformity. They have no jobs and no money, but they have plans. After graduating high school they went to Salt Lake State University. Their plans were to take the system down from the inside. Well, the system was still going strong and four years later they graduated. Now, their way of rebellion is wasting away their brains and hating the government and doing drugs. But soon after their first fall after college begins, Steveo’s whole belief system begins to crumble and anarchy doesn’t seem like such a plausible cause anymore. Will he hold on to his anarchic roots or will he become another corporate drone like his father?

Mittens really pulled that whole 80's punk look together nicely.

Errrm...none really...

Hmm…I don’t really know what I was expecting from this movie. Something, I guess, a little more hardcore? I dunno. I really enjoyed it though! The first half of the movie was awesome and hilarious. The second half…took a turn for the worst in the sense that it got rather serious…but it was still good. I was told, that the ending is something you see coming a mile away. I saw the situation coming…but whom it happened to…totally surprised me! By the way…the girl Steveo falls in love with…was so manly looking…and not pretty at all. Eheh. And… Devon Sawa? What was that about? Does anyone remember how he used to be such the “hottie icon” in the early 90’s?? Ahaha. I remember my friend used to kiss his poster every night. Heh…my point is…this role was a bit of a stretch for him…but I think he played it pretty well. As always Matthew Lillard plays the kinda wacky/crazy guy well. Over all…this was a good movie. I was definitely more into it at the beginning when it was funnier, and the serious tone really brought down the room…but such is life. It has to get realistic at some point…these people couldn’t just stay the same…never evolving into adults with this believe system…that doesn’t work (because if it did…then anarchy would be everyone’s thing). I think that this is definitely a movie everyone should see. It was good! Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
