New York, the city I love and I hate

Summer of Sam
[DVD Info]

In the summer of 1977 it was one of the hottest summers ever. People lived in fear because of the killer called " Son of Sam" who would kill couples making out in cars. Although, this movie includes the killer "Son of Sam"...it's not really ABOUT him. It's about how that summer affected people. First you meet a young Italian hairdresser named Vinny (John Leguizamo), who has a chronic cheating on his wife problem. While out at a dance club he takes his wife's cousin home (after having sex with her)...he's interrupted by the car behind them honking at them and they take off and he returns to his wife. On their way home, they get stopped by the cops and he gets out and sees that it was the car that had honked at them...and both the people inside are dead.

This is a sign from God he thinks. He needs to stop cheating on his wife. He's a new man. Well, that lasts a whole 5 minutes before he's cheating on her again. More and more bodies pile up and suspicions run high. Who is the "Son of Sam"? Is it the Vietnam vet who drives the cab (he is, after all, the son of Uncle Sam)? Is it the priest (he used to hit them as kids)? Or is it Richie (Adrien Brody) an old friend of theirs who turned to the punk scene and speaks with a fake British accent (and does porn and dances at a place called "The Man Club")? Will Vinny's wife Dionna (Mira Sorvino) be able to forgive his cheating ways?

"I want you to kill" ~The Dog.

I don't like Spike Lee very much, first off. He always has to put angry black people in his films and it's totally not needed.

Dionna is so stupid! She actually thought that she was what was wrong with their relationship! Raaggh! And he had sex with her cousin and she KNEW about it and never brought it up...and then asks one of his ex girlfriends how she should have sex with him. Eeech! He was terrible. Worst...husband...ever.

Ugh, isn't it sad...the best part of this movie is when the dog talks to the Son of Sam guy and tells him to kill people. It would have been a lot better if the story were more about the killer then the sleazy jerk who cheats on his wife. The parts that were just the Son of Sam were really interesting and made the movie good... (but that couldn't save this movie). Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
