Starsky & Hutch: The Movie
[BACK]
[DVD Info]
Taking place before the TV series...this is a story of how the dream team was made. In Bay City on the Bay City police force there are two cops David Starsky (Ben Stiller) and Ken Hutchinson (Owen Wilson) who couldn’t be anymore different. Starsky is a play by the rules hard hitter whose mother used to be a cop legend. Hutchinson (but calls himself Hutch) is a go as it flows kinda guy who didn’t even know that the police station opened before 10am. After Starsky botched yet another case (and going through 12 partners in 4 months) he’s paired up with Hutch. They get a call and find a floater in the bay and they are thrown for a ride of their lives as they come closer to a special cocaine that smells and tastes like sugar and is totally undetectable by police dogs with the help of their informant Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg). Will they be able to pull it together long enough to solve this case?
Everytime you get in your car you should peel out.
Crashing a party (especially when your chief of police is present) after being thrown off the police force and pulling guns on people is totally okay.
"If you cross the line...your nuts are mine" ~Starsky.
Ewww! Snoop Dogg is *SO* skinny! It's gross! It must be because of all the weed he smokes.
I hate Vince Vaghn so much. He is so creepy and sleazy and looks like he wants to molest me via movie screen. Ew. Ew. Ew.
I never saw the original TV series so I can’t tell you if it was accurate or not (I heard it’s not). This movie definitely had its moments…both good and bad. First…the bad. I found Starsky a little TOO anal…and not in a funny way…but a very annoying away. I also found myself wondering why this movie seemed familiar. Why? Because Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson played their characters exactly the same way they played them in Zoolander. There’s even a dance off (which is similar to the walk off in Zoolander). There was a small cameo by Will Farrell but it really felt like either he wasn’t given good lines or he’s loosing his touch. Let’s hope it was the lines. In fact…it felt like all the usually awesome actors (Stiller, Wilson, Farrell, etc) weren’t really on top of this one. Also…the appearance of the original S & H was kinda cheesy. The good? The 70’s paraphernalia (which was before my time…but I can relate to thanks to “I Love the 70’s”) was awesome, as well as Starsky’s car (and the stunts!). There were some good lines and the benefit is the best scene. It’s a good movie worth seeing…but maybe you should wait for it to come out on video to rent it. It definitely isn't a laugh out loud movie...but you will find yourself chuckling quite a bit. Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
