Alright…I’m very divided on this Japanese flick. On one hand…it was very good and I enjoyed it very much. On the other hand…I found it boring, embarrassingly lame, and the very end sucked. I’ll start with why I liked it. The fight scenes were awesome. They weren’t those lame fight scenes where they’re just doing a form and they make those cheesy sound effects (okay…that’s not that lame…but it’s very unexciting to me). The main character takes more than his share of hits and that’s always cool. The main girl was kind of annoying. She’d always start saying stuff and be super cryptic about everything and it was driving me crazy (it also drove me crazy that she was wearing pure white and she kept falling and her clothes NEVER got dirty!). Only the Japanese can say “You…” and not say anything else. Which brings me to another point. Americans could not pull this movie off. Never. They’d look like a bunch of idiots. Why do Japanese have the power to not look stupid? It’s amazing. Anyway, so the movie starts out good. There’s awesome fighting, the villains are cool, and the maiden is weepy. About an hour through the movie it looses it steam. The story drags and the characters don’t show any sign of evolving so it gets boring. Then, 20 minutes later it picks up again, then it starts to drag again, then it picks up…and then the very, very end just sucks. I totally hated it. It ruined everything the movie worked for. I guess it’s supposed to be some “surprise” ending but…blech. It’s eviiiiiiil. I didn’t really understand the main villain’s objective. He can’t die…what more power does he want? Is there something out there that’s better than that? Oh…if you’re wondering why I’m not calling anyone by their names…no one in this movie has a name! Well…in all…this movie could have shaved off about 40 minutes and you wouldn’t be missing anything. The gore and fighting was awesome, the supposed “comic relief” was embarrassing and made me want to shut the movie off, and the end sucked. It could’ve been so much better! But it was still pretty good. Did I mention that Japanese guys are really cute? Oh, well…they are ^_~ Anyway…this would have gotten four stars but…it didn’t deserve it!
Because of this, the jury gives this flick:
(Incredibly Disappointed)
