Comment I'd like to call this a "Chinese Charlie's Angels" film, but it really isn't. For one thing, the 3 leading ladies aren't always fighting on the same side, and the plot for So Close actually takes a tragic twist towards the end. But differences aside, there's enough booty-kicking stunts, eye-popping special effects, and confusing storylines to draw a sizable comparison to the American Charlie's Angels movies. The best thing about this movie is how SLEEK it looks. Icy cool colors. Crisp camera focus. Don't bother with the plot, even though the savvy technology theme can seem impressive at times. It's very much a 21st century flick packed with tons of action and 3 attractive leading ladies. For Vicki, it's another step further away from that cute "Little Swallow" image. Believe me, there's nothing childish about this fearless fighter. The Cast Vicki Zhao - As the younger, more impulsive sister Sue, Vicki isn't exactly the central star of the movie, but she sure puts up some amazing fights. This is probably the most lethal we've ever seen her, especially in that brutal but dazzling duel in the end. Speaking of the end, there's also a last-minute romantic interlude between her and Karen Mok. Totally undeveloped. Quite unnecessary. Don't ask. Shu Qi - Looking very much like the femme fatale, Shu Qi also serves up some breathtaking stunts. As the older sister Lynn, she must choose between a life of crime or marriage with Yan, played by the incredibly hot Korean actor Seoung-Heon Song. (Has anyone seen him in the drama "Endless Love?" Tears, people, you'll literally be moved to tears!) Karen Mok - The tough cop who at first fights against the two assasin sisters but eventually joins them against the corrupt computer mogul. Karen has always seemed rather tom-boyish to me, which bodes well for a character who has an unflinching fighter spirit. |
