The seeds of this idea were sown by AJ Olly Ophit, who mentioned years ago that if he used certain brands of toothpaste, all he wanted to do afterwards was watch TV. He lost all motivation to read, work on his music, develop his memory system, etc, and simply sat in front of the box for hours. (Strangely enough, the first product advertised on UK commercial television was Gibbs SR toothpaste. Mere coincidence!)
A further seed can be found in the classic film The Ipcress File, in which electronic signals, in conjunction with the standard brainwashing tools of sleep deprivation and starvation, are used to wipe out the memories of top scientists engaged in nuclear research.
Dr Timothy Leary's autobiography Flashbacks contains accounts of how he and his colleagues were able to re-imprint prisoners using LSD, and thereby reduce the recidivism rate in the post-prison population.Put these three strands together and bear the following situation in mind.
We have observed large numbers of kids (teenagers/twenties) coming into pubs, clearly powdered- and/ or pilled-up, and as soon as they hear the dance music they start dancing. It's an instaneous reaction, almost a reflex action; they seem to have no control over their bodies/minds during the interaction of artificial chemicals and electronic sounds. We have recently noticed the same behaviour pattern in young people on public transport. They seem unable to cope for more than a few seconds without playing electronic music on their mobile phones or MP3 players, and the involuntary muscular motions begin immediately. This form of attention-deficit discorder seems to us to be inextricably linked to the presence of "dance" music and other forms of electronic stimulation.
We therefore see the following interesting situations arise:
TOOTHPASTE + CATHODE RAYS = VEGGING IN FRONT OF IDIOT BOX
ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC + PILLS (E etc) = MINDLESS DANCING
In each case a carefully-controlled electronic stimulus interacts with one or more artificially-produced substances in order to engender a particular neurological state.
We are given pause for thought when one reflects on the massive outcry over Government plans to introduce fluoride into the piped water supplies, allegedly to reduce the incidence of tooth decay in the population. We also have to consider our own experiences at the hands of the Government, who simply cannot believe that in the year 2003 there are still individual men and women who choose not to own any means of receiving televisual broadcast signals.
Hypothesis: Government has been steadily (for years) introducing some form of 'mind-control' chemical (originally developed by the military-industrial complex for use against 'the enemy') into the water supply and/or food chain.
Hypothesis: The fact that for years the organic farming movement was regarded with suspicion by the population at large suggests that some form of anti-organic propaganda was distributed by the mass media. (cf The Good Life, where Tom and Barbara are seen as comedy characters, and treated with mild condescension by their neighbours, in the way that one might treat a slightly backward child.) The implication was that by not wanting these chemicals in our food and/or water, we were somehow cranky and anti-technology.
Hypothesis: Increasing incidence of asthma, allergies and other immunological disorders in young people suggests that some form of chemical additive is in water and/or food supply. Also, fact that nowadays people tend to rely on convenience foods, rather than taking the time to cook using basic ingredients (as my mother did when I was young) allows even more opportunity for adulteration of foodstuffs to occur.
Hypothesis: Government has now developed means of broadcasting electronic signals which will interact in a synergetic manner with the chemicals already in the bodies of the mass population. Hitherto, the experiments with toothpaste (fluoride) and analogue television signals have been effective in a small number of test subjects, randomly selected at birth, of whom AJ Olly Ophit is one such.
Hypothesis: The criminal gangs responsible for the manufacture and distribution of so-called 'recreational drugs' have pursued the same idea from a different direction. Over the past fifteen years they have been researching the interactions between drugs and electronic dance music, which is produced using digital computers to fine-tune pitch, rhythm, repetition etc.
Hypothesis: A well-known conspiracy theory in the USA suggests that marijuana, then LSD, then heroin (and eventually crack cocaine) was originally introduced by the CIA into the black neighbourhoods of major cities, in order to incapacitate the militant elements who would otherwise had re-enacted the Watts riots all over the country.
Hypothesis: The Government is responsible for the top-end distribution of illegal chemicals, through the secret services, to the criminal gangs who then deal them on to the individual users. The so-called 'war on drugs' is a smokescreen to conceal the fact that other chemicals are being introduced into the bodies of the population as a whole.
Hypothesis: The reason the Government is so keen for everyone to switch to Digital TV services and to switch off the analogue transmitters, is that the digital signals will interact with the chemicals in the food/water supply, in a far more effective manner than has been achieved until now.
