Chapter 7: - Battlefield of Happiness

On the end of the last chapter Vicki was worried about what had happened by total accident with her and Zoe's cousin Alec. Zoe phoned Vicki that night and conforted her and talked to her making Vicki feel a lot better. All 3 Mum's were thinking of a place to go on vacation and Japan was the decided place. They were going to go after the match which Alex and Alec were training very hard for. Nothing much is happening with Zoe and Alex at the moment as they were both busy with their own things. Alex still doesn't know what has happened between Alec and Vicki and nor does anyone else. Alec is busy training and trying to think of what to say when he and Vicki meet again. Zoe promised Alec that she would get Vicki to go onto the trip to Japan but he would have to do something too.
On the day of the match everything was going fine and the weather wasn't too hot but it wasn't raining either. The match was outside and the audience sat around the court. Zoe didn't manage to get a positive answer off Vicki on the phone last night. She spent ages on the phone talking to her but in the end all she got was a 'maybe' before she said she was tired and put the phone down.. Zoe didn't tell Alec yet as she didn't want this news to stop Alec from playing as good as he can.
Every now and again Alec would look up into the crowd and try and catch Zoe's eye to see if Vicki was going to come or not. But everytime Alec looked Zoe turned either side to talk to Auntie or someone.

Alex: Alec you ok? I'm sure she'll come. Don't worry
Alec: What if she won't come? What if she doesn't want to see me again?
Alex: Why won't she want to see you?

Alec not knowing what to reply to Alex just turned and walked into his place. Alex still not knowing what had happened carried on thinking they had only had an argument.
The match started and Alex and the rest of the team tried very hard but Alec didn't seem to be there. Just like the traditional saying 'the lights are on but no one's in'. By half time their team had lost a lot. All the team was sitting at the side feeling very low with a few of them mubbling who's fault it was. Of cause they all nominated Alec for that post! But is it really Alec fault?
Zoe tried phoning Vicki's mobile constantly whilst the match was on but Vicki had switched her phone off.
The whistle went for the next round and the next. Round after round they lost more and more points to the other team. The team started complaining to the team captain to find someone else to go into Alec's place.

TeamCaptain: Alec, I know you are a very good player in the team but what is wrong with you today?                     You don't seem to be yourself.
Player1: Get someone else to replace him. We can probably win or at least drawed if we have                         someone else that did something on the team!
Team: Yeh! Change him!
TeamCaptain: Well our other players are ill from the recent flu attack. No one has come as backup. If you guys didn't have that great fight before the end of term then maybe someone would've come. They won't be able to get here in time anyway the next round is about to start.

Alec not really listening to what everyone is saying was still looking around for Vicki.

Alex: Captain, I'm sure Alec will do his very best in the next round!
Player 1: How can you be sure? He's been 'dead' for the other rounds.
Captain: Alec?

Alec finally smiling again, very happily nodded his head and said a sorry to everyone just before they got back onto the 'battlefield'. Why was Alec so happy all of a sudden? And why did Alex know Alec would be playing to his best again? : p
Vicki had arrived just before the beggining of the last round and gave everyone a big suprise.

Zoe: erm..u..?
Vicki: Don't worry I'm fine. Else I won't be here right?:-P

Zoe seeing the twinkle back in Vicki's eyes when she smiled, knew that everything was fine and that somehow Vicki had seen through everything. So Zoe just smiled back and watched the rest of the exciting match.
Goal after goal Alec and the rest of the team got all there spirit back from each other and worked as a team once more. In the end they ended up as a draw with the other team at the last second with a brilliant slam dunk from Alec.
After the game Alec rushed up to the audience stand where his mother was handing him some water. In the middle of drinking every mouthful he stopped for a second or peaked over his bottle looking over to Vicki and smiling very happily.

Zoe: Alec you drinking or what?
Alex: Yeh I know, It's all coming out either side of your mouth.
Auntie: Alec drink properly other parents will think I can't even teach my son to drink properly!! I bet you're all starving by now. Your mother (facing Zoe) phoned me asking us to meet her with your big Auntie back at Kowloon.

Auntie walked with Tommy. The 4 of them following a distance behind.
