Dorothy, Roger Smith, or Pero (though I wish I did) -- just this story. Series: The Big O Characters: R. Dorothy Wayneright, Pero the kitten Author's notes: After watching the episode where Dorothy has this brief encounter with Pero the kitten, I felt compelled to write this short-short. Acknowledgements: As always -- thank you E.V., for your constructive critique and ruthless editing. Pero... I understand why you chose to go. But still, I miss you... The words ran through R. Dorothy's mind as she sat on the railing of Roger's balcony, looking out over the darkened city. Miss? I. Miss. Pero. She repeated the words to herself, to the gentle wind and warm rain. Strange. Is what's happening to me called "feeling?" Are robots supposed to feel? She tilted her face up to catch the sky's tears. The rain on my cheeks is warm. The rain reminds me of you, Pero. It will always remind me of you. The rain fell harder, but she stayed where she was, unblinking, looking up into the gray-black clouds. Goodbye... |
